Wares: The Ultimate Guide to Managing Your Inventory in Baldur’s Gate 3
Curious about the wares and their usage? This guide covers everything you need to know about the mechanic.
Baldur’s Gate 3 A Guide to Wares
Baldur’s Gate 3 has an astonishing number of mechanics and features, which can be overwhelming for a beginner. Don’t fret, though. Stick with it, and you’ll be in for a real treat of RPG goodness. One of these features that will tremendously help you with inventory management is Wares. 🎮💼
What Are Wares?

When you add an item to your wares, you mark it as an item to be sold to a merchant. There are hundreds of items to collect in Baldur’s Gate 3, so your inventory can quickly get cluttered with junk. Sending an item to your wares lets you keep on top of your inventory.
- You can sell all your wares to a merchant with a single click, halving the trading time.
- To do this, toggle the ‘Barter’ option atop the center of the trading screen and then select ‘Sell Wares’ at the bottom left of the screen.
- You can see the sum of gold you’ll receive for all your wares before you confirm the sale.
While you can filter through types of items in your inventory, you can’t filter for Wares, only within the trading screen.
How To Add To Wares

There are two ways you can add items to your wares, and one additional way for PC-specific players.
- You can either select an in-world item and choose the ‘Pick-up and Add to Wares’ option or select the ‘Add to Wares’ option on the desired object within your inventory.
- Items that are added to your wares will have an hourglass-shaped gold coin icon on them.
If you’d like to remove an item from your wares, repeat any of these methods on an item stored in your wares. Dropping an item on the floor or placing it in a chest will remove it from your wares, and you’ll have to re-add it upon pick up.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Managing Your Inventory

You should take the time to do some housekeeping in your inventory. Double-check the items in your wares; the last thing you want to do is sell an important item.
You’ll likely be controlling your character more than your companions, and your inventory can get filled up quickly if you don’t share the load.
You can view all your companion’s inventories by opening your party menu or selecting the ‘Party View’ option (the Tab key on PC).
Here you can swiftly drag and drop items between your companions. You can also select individual items and choose the option ‘send to_’ to send that item to a specific character in your party.
Even if you are knocked out in combat, you can still open your party inventory and transfer items between characters without using actions or bonus actions.
This works even if you are moving items to or from a deceased party member.
If your party inventory is overflowing, you can store items in the Traveler’s Chest in your camp by selecting an item and choosing the ‘Send to Camp’ option.
Just remember that if you’re playing in Multiplayer Mode, you won’t have access to your friends’ player chests or inventories while they are playing with you.
If you own the world file, you can access your friends’ player inventories when they log off the game. However, while they are actively in your party, your friends’ characters and any NPCs they control are inaccessible to you.
The wares tab is not shared by the party. Each character has its own respective ‘wares’ inventory, so selling your wares at a merchant will only sell the wares that are in your current character’s inventory.
Gold is likewise not shared between characters on the shop screen. Gold, items, and wares that you want to give a party member to sell must be added manually.
If you want your high Charisma bard to handle all the bartering, make sure you’ve moved all of your party members’ wares to that character before entering the shop menu.
💡 Tips and Tricks
- Keep your inventory clean by regularly adding items to wares that you intend to sell.
- Be cautious when selling your wares to avoid accidentally selling important items.
- Make use of the party inventory to distribute and manage items efficiently.
- Utilize the Traveler’s Chest in your camp when your party inventory is overflowing.
- Remember that wares are not shared between party members, so manage them individually.
- Communicate with your friends in multiplayer mode to coordinate item transfers and sales.
Now that you have a solid understanding of how to manage your inventory with wares in Baldur’s Gate 3, go forth and conquer the land of Faerun with confidence!
