Lying, murdering, and other sources of inspiration

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game that truly knows how to keep you on your toes. There are so many paths to explore, so many adventures to embark on, that it can sometimes feel overwhelming. But fear not! The inspiration system is here to save the day and add a dash of role-playing brilliance to your experience. It not only encourages you to make decisions based on your character’s morals and values but also creates hilarious and memorable moments with your companions.

Each of the recruitable companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 has their own unique personality, which means they have their own reactions to your choices. For example, Lae’zel despises acts of charity, while Gale believes that kindness is the way to go. Currently, I’m traveling with Astarion, Shadowheart, and Lae’zel, and through the inspiration system, I’ve gotten to know them like never before.

In a nutshell, the inspiration system rewards you whenever you do something particularly inspiring to your friends. It’s like a high-five from the universe! And the best part? You can use this inspiration to get a free reroll whenever you need it. Talk your way past a pesky guard and infiltrate enemy territory? Astarion and I reveled in that, earning two rerolls to save for a rainy day.

But inspiration isn’t only limited to dialogue or knocking people off. For instance, I stumbled upon a cell with a cultist who enjoyed a good beating in honor of his dark patron. Curiosity got the better of me, so I let him pummel me in front of Astarion and Shadowheart. To my surprise, Astarion was strangely into it, and Shadowheart was inspired by my dedication to my faith. It was a bizarre but exciting moment that brought us all closer together.

The beauty of inspiration is that it can be saved for later. I managed to stockpile all my rerolls from the first area and used them to breeze through the final confrontation at the goblin camp. Failed a persuasion check? No worries! I just rewound time and tried again until I succeeded. It’s like having a cheat code for life!

Inspiration is more than just a gameplay mechanic – it’s a reward for embracing your character and immersing yourself in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3. So bring on the challenges, the failures, and the unforgettable moments. With inspiration by your side, there’s no limit to the fun and mischief you can get into. Baldur’s Gate 3 proves that gaming is at its best when you can lie, murder, and inspire your way to victory!
