Civilization 6: How to Achieve a Heroic Age and Dominate the Game
Civilization 6’s Rise and Fall expansion brought Ages into the mix, giving players the chance to experience Dark, Normal, Golden, and Heroic Ages. While all Ages have their perks, the Heroic Age is the holy grail, offering players a plethora of powerful bonuses for their civilization. However, reaching a Heroic Age is no easy feat.
Unlocking Heroic Age
To enter a Heroic Age, you must first find yourself in a Dark Age, and then earn enough Era Score to qualify for a Golden Age in the next era. Keep in mind that you cannot start the game in a Heroic Age, and without experiencing a Dark Age first, you won’t be able to achieve a Heroic Age at all. While there are numerous ways to earn Era Score, the key to surpassing the Golden Age threshold lies in the Dedication you choose when entering the Dark Age.
While Dark Ages may not be ideal, their unique Policy Cards and the chance to achieve a Heroic Age afterward make up for the Loyalty penalties. In fact, deliberately entering a Dark Age to set yourself up for a Heroic Age is a viable strategy, although the Era Score system’s vastness can make it challenging to reliably arrange.
The Power of Heroic Age Dedications
Aside from the shared Loyalty bonus with Golden Ages, the true gem of a Heroic Age is the ability to choose three Dedications, which is two more than you would get in a Golden Age. Unlike Dark and Normal Age Dedications, Golden and Heroic Age Dedications don’t provide ways to earn Era Score. Instead, they offer insanely powerful bonuses that can quickly propel you toward your desired victory in Civilization 6.
When it comes to Dedications, certain ones stand out. Exodus of the Evangelists can give your early Religion a massive boost, allowing you to spread your Missionaries far and wide or snag a Great Prophet without delay. On the expansion front, Sic Hunt Draconis adds +3 Population to all cities founded on a different continent than your capital. This incredible bonus to Population growth can save you dozens of turns in the right situation. Finally, in the late-game, look out for Wish You Were Here and Sky and Stars, which can provide that final push you need to secure a Cultural or Scientific Victory, respectively.
