Destiny 2: Season of the Witch – Building Decks and Confronting Hive Gods

Destiny 2’s Season of the Witch is here, and it’s time to dive into an enchanting world filled with high-stakes encounters and a deckbuilding mechanic that will leave you spellbound. But before we jump in, let’s talk about the lore and gameplay risks this season takes.
First up, we have Savathun’s Spire, a trap-filled labyrinth that promises to test your skills and wits. Think you can navigate through it unscathed? Good luck, Guardian! And if that’s not enough, the Altars of Summoning await, where you’ll face off against powerful foes with everything on the line. Are you up for the challenge?
But there’s more to Season of the Witch than meets the eye. Eris Morn’s Lectern of Divination introduces a whole new deckbuilding approach using tarot cards. Yes, you read that right, tarot cards! These cards provide additional modifiers that can turn the tides of battle in your favor. Who knew Eris Morn had a mystical side?

Now, let’s break down how the Major and Minor Arcana work. Destiny 2 players will come across Opaque Cards throughout the season, which can be earned from various activities like Vanguard and Crucible. These cards can then be activated at the Lectern of Divination, after completing the first week’s story.
Some Opaque Cards transform into Major Arcana, while others become Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana require completion of associated quests to unlock their full potential. Take the “Blades” Major Arcana, for example. To unlock its powers, you’ll need to unleash your melee attacks, swords, or glaives in the new Savathun’s Spire and Altars of Summoning activities. Show those combatants who’s boss!
On the other hand, Minor Arcana only need to be activated at the Lectern of Divination, instantly rewarding you with various goodies. From Season of the Witch Engrams to Enhancement Cores or even Exotic Engrams, these Minor Arcana cards hold great surprises within their mystical powers.

Now, let’s talk deckbuilding mechanics. A full deck consists of five Major Arcana cards. In the first week, you’ll have access to all the currently available cards, allowing you to create your dream deck. As you progress through the season, more Major Arcana cards will unlock, giving you the freedom to fine-tune your deck to fit your playstyle and build. It’s like crafting a masterpiece, but with tarot cards!
However, the game’s UI currently only displays the cards you draw during activities, without explaining their effects. Don’t worry though, we expect this to be fixed soon. In the meantime, embrace the mystery of the cards and unleash their hidden potential.
Destiny 2’s Season of the Witch brings a fresh twist to the looter-shooter genre with its deckbuilding mechanic. It seamlessly integrates into the gameplay loop, providing a diverse and captivating experience for players. So, grab your tarot cards, prepare for epic battles, and embrace the magic that awaits in Season of the Witch!
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Let the witching hour begin!
