Family Guy: The 'Lois Is Dead' Hoax, Explained
The Never-Ending Youth of Animated Characters
We all know that animated characters have a special power: they never age! While us humans have to deal with things like wrinkles and gray hairs, these cartoon icons stay forever young. It’s no wonder that Bart Simpson has been stuck at age 10 for over three decades in The Simpsons!
But how does this magical agelessness happen? Well, it’s simple – the animators decide their fate. As long as the voice actors stick around or someone with a similar voice can be found, the characters will live on forever in our hearts. However, there are rare occasions when an animated character meets an untimely end or gets axed from the show. But don’t worry, sometimes it’s just a big prank!
The “Lois Is Dead” Hoax

Picture this: December 2022, the internet goes wild with the news that Lois Griffin from Family Guy is dead. A Twitter user named @minasdemon started a trending tweet that proclaimed “Lois Griffin DEAD AT 43”. Now, some of us could see through the ruse, but many fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
With a whopping 22 million views, fans flocked to the reply section to express their grief and disbelief. The show was on a mid-season break at the time, so the truth-seekers had to wait for two agonizing weeks before Family Guy returned and put the rumors to rest. Yep, Lois was alive and well, much to the relief of her adoring fans.
But during these two weeks, something bizarre happened. People on platforms like Twitter and TikTok began making videos of their families reacting to the news of Lois Griffin’s supposed demise. At first, it was innocent and amusing, but then things took a dark turn. Some individuals started tricking their loved ones with news of real-life celebrity deaths, all in the name of the “Celebrity Death Prank” challenge. Not cool, guys.

This unsettling chain of events sparked genuine concerns about the well-being of Lois’ voice actor, Alex Borstein. Fans worried that she might be leaving the show after 21 seasons or, heaven forbid, had passed away in real life. Fortunately, it was quickly debunked. Borstein is alive and kicking, assuring us that she has no plans to leave Family Guy as long as the writing stays top-notch.
Isn’t it fascinating how a mere tweet can cause such chaos? But maybe it was believable because it wasn’t the first time fans were led to believe that a character’s demise was imminent.
Close Calls and Resurrections

Family Guy has had its fair share of close calls and shocking twists. In a gripping two-part special during season 6, titled “Stewie Kills Lois,” Stewie finally achieves one of his lifelong goals – killing his own mother! Or so it seemed. The Griffins were left in the dark, suspecting Peter of foul play. But just as he was about to be sentenced, Lois bursts into the courtroom, revealing the true culprit – Stewie himself! What a rollercoaster!
Then we have Brian, the beloved family dog. In season 12, episode 6, tragedy strikes as Brian is tragically hit by a car and meets his end. Desperate to reverse this devastating turn of events, Stewie rebuilds his time machine and successfully travels back in time to save Brian. Talk about being best friends forever!
But it’s not all fun and games. Sometimes, the passing of voice actors leads to the loss of beloved characters. Family Guy bid farewell to Peter’s boss, Angela, voiced by the late Carrie Fisher, and Quahog Mayor Adam West, voiced by the legendary Batman himself, who passed away in 2017. They were given fictional funerals, paying tribute to their incredible contributions.
So, what’s the lesson in all this? When it comes to Family Guy, don’t believe everything you read on Twitter unless it happens on the actual show. After all, Seth MacFarlane loves to keep us on our toes with his trademark humor and shock factor.
In the meantime, let’s raise a glass to the animated characters who never age and continue to entertain us year after year. Cheers to their eternal youth and the joy they bring to our lives!
