Final Fantasy 14, the MMO sensation that keeps on giving, is gearing up for its next expansion: Dawntrail! After ten incredible years and the success of Endwalker, the game shows no signs of slowing down. Director Naoki Yoshida even compares the game’s epic story to an ongoing television series. So, what can we expect from Dawntrail? Let’s dive into the details and explore the exciting new features that await us!
New Story, New Setting
When Final Fantasy 14 first began, we witnessed the dramatic struggle of the noble Scions against the mysterious Ascians, the machinations of the Garlean Empire, and the epic battle between Zodiark and Hydaelyn. Now, with Dawntrail, a brand-new story unfolds before us. This expansion marks the beginning of another marathon narrative that could last as long as FF14’s second decade. And the best part? Dawntrail appears to sport a lighter tone, a much-needed break after the intensity of Endwalker’s Final Days.
Introducing Toral, commonly referred to as the New World, a continent to the southwest of Eorzea. It is separated by the Indigo Deep, a massive body of water. Toral is home to a wide variety of peoples, including the exotic beast race called the Mamool Ja. The capital city, Tuliyollal, will be the major hub in Dawntrail, providing us with a diverse and harmonious setting that celebrates the beauty of nature.
A Whole New World

Venturing into the unexplored lands of Dawntrail, we’ll encounter the ruins of an ancient empire of Giants in the mountainous landscape of Urqopacha. The heavily forested land of Yak’tel is home not only to the Mamool Ja but also to the Hrothgar. With a total of six regions to explore, Dawntrail promises breathtaking landscapes and new mysteries to unravel.
Succession

Dawntrail’s self-contained plot revolves around a pivotal ceremony in the New World to determine Tural’s next ruler. Our protagonist embarks on this noble mission, taking a well-deserved break that Director Yoshida describes as the best summer vacation a hero could possibly have. However, in true Final Fantasy fashion, conflicts arise, and the Warrior of Light may find themselves going head-to-head in rivalry with some unexpected Scions. Behind the golden gates of the fabled city of gold, who knows what awaits us?

New Jobs, New Dungeons, New Raids

No Final Fantasy 14 expansion would be complete without exciting new content, starting with two new Job Classes joining the ranks in Dawntrail. While the details remain a mystery, what we do know is that there will be a melee-style Job Class and a ranged Job Class—a perfect chance for players to diversify their playstyles and unleash even more chaos upon their enemies.
Turtle Talk: When Yoshida removed his jacket on stage, revealing a shirt featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, fan speculation erupted. What could it mean? Perhaps a new Job Class called Pictomancer? Only time will tell!
Prepare yourselves for an increased level cap as we journey from Endwalker to Dawntrail. With the level cap raising from 90 to 100, we’ll gain ten new levels’ worth of battle abilities. Get ready to create new strategies and slay your foes in style.
Final Fantasy Feeling: Dawntrail brings not only new Variant Dungeons but also Alliance Raids that promise to be even more Final Fantasy-ish. Drawing inspiration from the success of the Myths of the Realm series in Endwalker, these raids will undoubtedly deliver unforgettable and epic experiences.
New Graphics, New Side Quests, New Customization

Final Fantasy 14’s version 7.0 update will kickstart an expansion-wide effort to enhance the game’s graphics to new heights. While the first wave of graphics updates will focus on Dawntrail’s zones and characters, the team plans to gradually improve lighting, shadows, and texture quality throughout the game. Be prepared for a visual upgrade that will immerse you even further into the breathtaking world of FF14.
Quite Conceivable Upgrades: As a fashion-forward player, your dreams are about to come true. With Dawntrail, you’ll have the ability to dye your gear with two separate colors per piece, unlocking a whole new realm of fashion possibilities. Additionally, the furnishing limit will increase, allowing you to create your perfect in-game oasis. Moreover, characters can now wear glasses alongside headgear, a monumental shift in character design. And don’t worry, Hildibrand fans, the bumbling detective will stumble into more hilarious adventures in the New World.
Everything Else We Know About Dawntrail

Dawntrail brings new features to enhance the multiplayer experience, including a Strategy Board that allows players to communicate battle tactics and positioning with ease. No language barrier will hinder our coordination during those intense encounters.
As for the Blue Mages, they will receive an update that includes a higher level cap and new monster abilities to learn. The team is also considering additional Deep Dungeon locations and more exciting activities at the Gold Saucer, though further details are yet to be revealed.
Pelupelu Pals: Fans of Final Fantasy 10 will be delighted to encounter the Pelupelu, one of Dawntrail’s Beast Tribes. These small-statured entrepreneurs produce beloved New World staples such as tea, coffee, and mezcal. Joining their society will surely be an adventure to remember!
Dawntrail Release Date: Mark your calendars for the summer of 2024! Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is set to launch, and while Director Yoshida hopes for an earlier release, he’s giving his talented team the time they need to deliver a truly spectacular experience.
But wait, there’s more! Endwalker still has plenty of updates lined up, with Patch 6.5 Part 1 arriving in early October. As we continue our journey towards Dawntrail, we’ll keep you updated on all the exciting developments and discoveries in FF14’s trip to Toral.
