Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters: Coming to Final Fantasy 14?

The recent releases of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters have finally given a new audience the chance to experience the original six Final Fantasy games on modern consoles. But Square Enix has even bigger aspirations – they want to bring these remasters to Final Fantasy 14! That’s right, instead of just playing the games on PlayStation or Nintendo Switch, imagine being able to dive into the Pixel Remasters within the immersive world of FF14.

During a press conference at Final Fantasy Fan Fest 2023, director and producer Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P) expressed his interest in this unique crossover. He proposed that FF14 players could potentially access the Pixel Remasters through the Gold Saucer amusement park or their player housing. However, he also acknowledged the challenges in implementing this feature.

Yoshi-P explained that the Pixel Remasters utilize “middleware,” a software program that acts as the middleman between the game and the operating system. Integrating this into FF14 would require building another system capable of playing back the middleware inside the game. As he puts it, it’s like building a system of a game to play a system of a game – quite a perplexing configuration!

But don’t lose hope just yet! Yoshi-P’s enthusiasm for the idea remains unwavering, and he issued a call to action for a “super programmer” to step forward and lend Square Enix a hand. So, who knows? Maybe with the help of a talented individual, we could witness the Pixel Remasters coming to life within FF14.

Interestingly enough, if Square Enix manages to make this feature a reality, it would mean that the Pixel Remasters are indirectly making their way to Xbox as well. FF14, which was announced for Xbox during Fan Fest, is set to release in spring of next year after an open beta period. Exciting times lie ahead for Final Fantasy fans!

Fan Fest 2023 proved to be a jam-packed event filled with thrilling announcements. From the unveiling of the new Dawntrail expansion to teasing future collaborations between Square Enix and Xbox, it was a rollercoaster of emotions. And of course, there was that mysterious T-shirt and an unfortunate disappointment for Blitzball fans.

Stay tuned as we bring you the latest updates on this potential FF14 and Pixel Remasters crossover. Final Fantasy enthusiasts, get ready to embark on a truly extraordinary gaming experience!
