Kratos-isms Atreus Could Show in His Own Game
Atreus Takes the Spotlight in the Future of God of War

The future of the God of War franchise is uncertain, but fans have high hopes for Atreus, Kratos’ son. Many believe that Atreus will soon star in his own game, possibly becoming the new face of the franchise. While Atreus will undoubtedly forge his own path, there are opportunities for him to embrace some of the same qualities that made his father a beloved protagonist.
In the last two entries of God of War, the emotional storytelling, memorable moments, and epic mythological conflicts have captivated players. However, it’s the bond between Kratos and Atreus that truly stands out. Facing dangerous trials together, coming close to death, meeting new people, and sharing tender moments, their relationship is the heart of these games. Although they have their differences, it’s those distinctions that make their connection so compelling. If Atreus gets his own game, it could explore the comedic and dramatic effects of his resemblance to his father.
Atreus’s Adoption of Kratos’s Gruff Mannerisms

Having Atreus star in his own game presents an exciting opportunity to showcase a character who differs from Kratos in many ways. While Kratos is tough, stoic, and unimaginative, Atreus is gentle, thoughtful, and sensitive. These differences are apparent throughout both games, with Atreus exhibiting curiosity, loquaciousness, and mysticism, while Kratos leans towards brute force, violence, and tough love.
However, despite their contrasting natures, Atreus still yearns for his father’s approval. In God of War Ragnarok, players witness Atreus attempting to punch open a wooden chest, imitating his father’s signature move. Inevitably, he fails and hurts his hand in the process. In his own game, Atreus could practice this move repeatedly, eventually succeeding and proudly congratulating himself. Additionally, he could consciously deepen his voice or mimic Kratos’s famous phrases, like referring to a younger character as “boy.”
Exploring Atreus’s Dark Side and Connecting Him to Kratos
While the connection between Atreus and Kratos can provide plenty of humorous moments, it can also serve a more serious narrative purpose. Kratos, despite trying to be a better parent, has a dark side. While Atreus exhibits glimpses of this darkness, it never escalates to the same extent as his father’s. In the 2018 game, Atreus brutally kills Modi but quickly feels remorse and moves on. A standalone Atreus game shouldn’t ignore this character development but can delve deeper into his inclinations towards violence and wrath, drawing parallels between him and Kratos.

Even as Atreus charts his own path, the connection to his father should not be forgotten. It can be leveraged to create humorous, nostalgic, and dramatic situations throughout his journey. Whether Atreus embarks on his adventure alone or with companions, he will undoubtedly continue to evolve as a character, and his deep-rooted bond with his father will play a significant role.
