Updated July 14, 2023, by none other than Sean Murray himself: Wanna know how to get to the center of the galaxy in No Man’s Sky? This guide has been refreshed with the latest info to help make your journey to the Galactic Core that much easier.

What Is The Center Of The Galaxy?

In No Man’s Sky, the center of the galaxy is where the “end” game begins. And let me tell you, it comes with a plot twist that will blow your mind. Brace yourself!

Step One: Follow The Normal Course Of The Game

To start your epic journey, you need to begin at the beginning. Fix up your ship, gather all the resources you can from your home planet, and set out to explore outer space like a fearless adventurer. No Man’s Sky’s Artemis Path questline will eventually lead you to a mind-blowing mission called “The Purge,” which will take you right to the center of the galaxy. But more on that later!

Step Two: Upgrade Your Hyperdrive

If you want to travel the stars and reach the Galactic Core, you’ll need to get yourself a Hyperdrive, the ultimate faster-than-light engine. This bad boy will teleport you from one star system to the next and is absolutely crucial for your journey.

Upgrade your Hyperdrive with the incredible Indium Drive (blueprints available at the Nexus) and the best upgrade modules you can find (preferably S-class). The more upgrades you have, the farther you can jump in light-years. You’ll be cruising through the galaxy in no time!

Step Three: Clear Some Inventory Space For Warp Cells

Now, here’s a pro tip: if you rely solely on the Hyperdrive to reach the center of the galaxy, you’ll need a ton of storage for fuel. Trust me, it’s a loooong trip. The more storage space you have, the more Warp Cells you can carry. And each Warp Cell will give you one jump closer to your destination.

Step Four: Follow The Waypoint

Once you’ve completed the Artemis Path and unlocked “The Purge” quest, congratulations! You now have a shiny waypoint that will guide you to the center of the galaxy. Well, technically, it will lead you to the nearest Gateway System, which is pretty darn close to the core.

Method One: Just Warp Until You Get There

Ah, the classic method. This one is for the patient peeps out there. If you find yourself nowhere near the Galactic Core, prepare yourself for a long, loooong journey. You’ll be jumping from star system to star system, slowly inching closer to your destination. It’s a bit tedious, but hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day, right?

No Man’s Sky Ship Warping

Ideally, you should have an Explorer or an Exotic ship with a kickass Hyperdrive for this method. Even with a fully-upgraded Hyperdrive, you might run out of fuel before reaching the center. So be prepared for periodic pit-stops to refuel. It’s like a never-ending road trip, but in space!

Method Two: Use Black Holes

If you’re a speed demon, then black holes are your best friends. These cosmic whirlpools will fling you closer to the Galactic Core faster than Santa on Christmas Eve. To find a black hole, visit the Space Anomaly and ask the friendly NPCs, Entity Nada or Polo. They’ll give you a waypoint on your Galactic Map that leads to the black hole of your dreams.

Method Three: Use The Portals

Now, this method is where things get a little wild. Brace yourself! The galactic portal network is like an interstellar teleportation system on steroids. It allows you to travel vast distances, instantly taking you from the galactic rim to the galactic core in a single epic leap. It’s like the Stargate, but with more aliens and fewer pyramids.

To fully utilize the portals, you’ll need to master the art of glyphs. These fancy symbols are like coordinates to other cool places in the universe. You can learn glyphs by chatting up travelers from different species and visiting their graves. Alternatively, complete the Artemis Path to unlock these mystical glyphs. You’ll need all 16 of them to form a portal address.

To locate a Portal Terminal, you first have to find an Alien Monolith. And once you’re there, get ready to embrace the mind-bending, reality-altering power of the portals. It’s a trip you won’t forget!

Oh, and here’s a sneaky trick. If you have a friend who lives near the center of the galaxy or has a base in a Gateway System, they can provide you with their portal address. Just use the Nexus to teleport to their location, then jump with your Hyperdrive. It’s like hitching a ride with a space taxi!

Tips:

No Man’s Sky Ship Being Damaged
  • Use an Explorer or an Exotic ship as your main vessel for this journey. They have higher warp speeds than other ships, so you’ll reach the center faster. Zoom zoom!
  • When you make the final jump to the center of the galaxy, do it with a ship you don’t care too much about. Trust me, jumping through the Galactic Core can be rough, and it’ll damage several of your ship’s systems. Leave your precious ships at home to avoid a costly repair bill.
  • Don’t forget to pack some repair materials. You never know when your ship decides to throw a cosmic tantrum.

Now you’re ready to embark on your hilarious and epic journey to the center of the galaxy in No Man’s Sky! Safe travels, fellow interstellar explorers!
