Persona 6: Bringing Characters to Life!
Ah, Persona 5 Royal. Such a game filled to the brim with vivid characters that it’s hard not to fall in love with them. From the main cast to the unforgettable side characters, Atlus has definitely hit the mark when it comes to creating fun and interesting personas.
But enough reminiscing, let’s talk about the future. When Persona 6 finally graces us with its presence, it needs to step up its game. While we expect some new features and improvements, there’s one crucial element that it should absolutely borrow from its predecessor.
Persona 6 Should Have a Complex and Sympathetic Villain

There’s something immensely satisfying about defeating outwardly evil villains in games. Persona 5 Royal nailed it with the likes of Kamoshida and Shido, who were so despicable that we took immense pleasure in taking them down a peg or two. But not all villains fit this mold.
Enter Takuto Maruki, the game’s antagonist in the third semester. He’s a therapist with a kind heart and genuine care for his patients, making him an unexpectedly comforting presence. When we discover his dark desire to reshape reality based on everyone’s innermost wishes, it’s a shocker. But here’s the interesting part: Maruki isn’t some malicious mastermind. No, his intentions come from a place of deep sorrow, rooted in a tragic incident that tore him and his fiancee apart.

What sets Maruki apart is his true pain, masked by his Persona Azathoth. It’s easy for developers to undermine a character’s earlier development with such a twist, but Persona 5 Royal doesn’t fall into that trap. Maruki remains a kind soul, even as he becomes the most formidable foe the Phantom Thieves face. The beauty lies in his unyielding desire for the happiness of everyone, although his methods are questionable at best.
Persona 6 must learn from Maruki’s character portrayal. It’s important to have a complex antagonist, someone with good intentions but severely misguided actions. Remember, Persona 5 Royal had its fair share of memorable characters, but the consistency of its villains left something to be desired. While Kamoshida’s monstrous behavior left a lasting impact, Kaneshiro’s shallow characterization made him utterly forgettable. We can’t afford that in Persona 6.
So, here’s a thought: what if Persona 6 delved deeper into each character’s motives? Picture this: each one has valid reasons for their choices, but one character remains blind to the fatal flaws in their ideology. The game’s antagonists could take us on an emotional rollercoaster. But if Atlus wants to make Persona 6 a game-changer, it needs to create a villain as well-written and realized as Maruki.
And that’s a wrap! Let’s anticipate the greatness that awaits us in Persona 6. Stay tuned for more updates!
