Pikmin 4: Water Crossing Guide
Pikmin 4: Water Crossing Guide
Fun Ways to Cross Water in Pikmin 4
In the vibrant world of Pikmin 4, you’ll encounter various obstacles – from unfinished bridges to pesky yellow electric gates. However, none can compare to the trouble presented by water. Just like in real life, most Pikmin can’t swim and will drown if left alone for too long. Thankfully, your playable character doesn’t share the same fate, but without the help of Oatchi and the Pikmin, their ability to survive in water is about as useful as a waterproof teabag.
But fret not! There are several exciting ways to conquer water in Pikmin 4, and luckily, most become accessible fairly early on in the game. From deploying specific Pikmin types to manipulating your space pup, these methods will have you navigating water with ease in no time.
Method 1: Ice Pikmin
Sometimes, you just need to chill out, and that’s exactly what Ice Pikmin can help you do. By tossing in a few Ice Pikmin, you can freeze the water, creating a solid path for you and your intrepid companions. The number of Ice Pikmin required depends on the size of the aquatic obstacle. But watch out – Ice Pikmin won’t enter the fray until you explore the Sun-Speckled Terrace area. You’ll find them scattered across multiple Sublevels like Last-Frost Cavern, Hectic Hollows, and Aquiferous Summit. However, you’ll need to wait until you reach the game’s fourth area to obtain the Ice Onion and keep these cool Pikmin out of harm’s way.
Method 2: Blue Pikmin
Who needs water wings when you have Blue Pikmin? Unlike their land-lubbering counterparts, Blue Pikmin are natural-born swimmers. They effortlessly glide through the water without a care in the world. This method comes in handy when you only need one type of Pikmin or when you need to retrieve an item floating in the water. Plus, these aquatic enthusiasts take the shortest route back to base, even if that means taking a dip. So, consider using Blue Pikmin for some swift item transportation! Keep in mind that you won’t find any Blue Pikmin in the caves, but fear not! You can discover a Blue Onion in the Sun-Speckled Terrace area, but first, you’ll need a minimum of 30 Ice Pikmin to freeze the water leading to it.
Method 3: Oatchi
Now, here’s a heartwarming tale of triumph over adversity. When you first try to ride Oatchi through water, he almost drowns. Sounds cruel, we know! But it’s necessary for Oatchi’s growth. After his near miss, Oatchi learns to swim two days later, resulting in an adorable space pup who can confidently paddle through water. So, be brave and let Oatchi have his teenage rebellious moment as early as possible. If you nearly drown him during your adventure on Day 3, you’ll unlock his swimming ability at the beginning of Day 5. From then on, this cute little companion and any Pikmin hitching a ride on his back will have no trouble navigating water hazards.
