Old Halo E3 Demos Remade for New Update in Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Halo fans, get ready to turn back time and experience the nostalgia of the iconic E3 demos in Halo: The Master Chief Collection! In an exciting collaboration between 343 Industries, the genius minds behind Halo, and the talented modding group Digsite, old Halo 2 and Halo 3 E3 demos are being lovingly restored and remade for a future update.
Now, let’s take a moment to appreciate how far Halo: The Master Chief Collection has come since its initial rocky launch back in 2014. Thanks to 343 Industries’ dedication and numerous post-launch updates, the game has improved by leaps and bounds. The collection now includes Halo: Combat Evolved through Halo 4, with over 120 multiplayer maps, optimizations, an enhanced Forge Mode, and even seasonal content. While the updates have slowed down a bit recently, the folks at 343 Industries continue to engage with the community and share exciting news about their ongoing projects for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
But let’s get back to the star of the show: the remade Halo E3 demos! In a joint announcement from 343 Industries and Digsite, it has been revealed that the Halo 2 and Halo 3 E3 demos from 2003 and 2006 will be painstakingly reconstructed and made playable for all players in a future free update. The development process involves breathing new life into elements from the original demos that didn’t make it into the final game, such as skyboxes, vehicles, in-game areas, and textures. The Halo 2 E3 2003 demo is almost ready for action, while the scenario from the Halo 3 E3 2006 demo has already been successfully remade.
However, it hasn’t been all fun and games for the modding enthusiasts at Digsite. Remaking the scenario’s scripts for the Halo 3 E3 demo proved to be a challenge. Many of the original script functions were lost during Halo 3’s development, and some of the assets used in the demo underwent significant changes. But fear not, for after extensive restructuring and re-development, Digsite proudly announces that the Halo 3 E3 demo scenario can now be played from start to finish. Though it still requires some final touches before its inclusion in the upcoming free update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
While we eagerly await the release of these remade demos, there’s still plenty of action to be had in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Don’t forget to install the July 2023 update, which introduces the ability to create custom Firefight sessions with up to eight players! That’s right, you can now bring even more friends into the thrilling world of Halo’s PvE mode.
