World of Warcraft’s Halloween Surprise
It’s that time of the year again! World of Warcraft players eagerly await the annual Hallow’s End holiday celebration, but this year, things are about to get spooktacularly different. As players logged onto the Patch 10.1.7 public test realm (PTR) for a sneak peek at the upcoming Fury Incarnate content update, a surprising change was unveiled.
For those unfamiliar, Hallow’s End is WoW’s answer to Halloween, bringing festive fun and reflective moments for both the Forsaken and the Worgen factions. However, overshadowing the merriment is the menacing Headless Horseman, who unleashes terror and fiery chaos across Azeroth, all while taunting players atop his coveted mount. But this year, as Hallow’s End approaches, players will discover a thrilling twist when they confront the Headless Horseman.
The Scarlet Monastery, home to the fanatical Scarlet Crusade and the resting place of the Headless Horseman, underwent some green makeovers on the Patch 10.1.7 PTR. According to Wowhead, these changes can be found in the graveyard section of the Forlorn Cloister. It’s the first time since the Mists of Pandaria expansion in 2012 that any part of the Scarlet Monastery has received significant updates. But what’s really intriguing is that the usually hostile Scarlet Crusaders have mysteriously vanished during Hallow’s End, replaced by a burning jack-o’-lantern. Players can summon and battle the Headless Horseman using this peculiar lantern. These environmental alterations on the PTR may hint at even more holiday-themed surprises planned for Patch 10.1.7 this fall.
In the days of World of Warcraft: Classic, the Scarlet Monastery was a four-part labyrinth that demanded careful strategy and crowd control. Legend has it that it was one of the toughest dungeons around. However, when Mists of Pandaria graced our screens, the Scarlet Monastery underwent a transformation. It was condensed into two wings, and both the environment and boss encounters were updated to fit WoW’s modern era.
The Fury Incarnate update brings not only changes to the Scarlet Monastery graveyard but also introduces a newly-crowned aspect of the black dragonflight. World of Warcraft players are in for a visual treat! Who knows, there might be more surprising makeovers for old areas in the future. Only time will tell.
