Microsoft and PlayStation Secure Agreement to Keep Call of Duty on PlayStation
In a surprising turn of events, Xbox head Phil Spencer has announced a binding agreement between Microsoft and PlayStation to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Spencer took to Twitter to share the exciting news, expressing his enthusiasm for a future where players have more freedom to choose where they want to play their favorite games.

Now, you might be wondering, what exactly does this “binding agreement” entail? Well, Spencer didn’t provide any further details, leaving us all on the edge of our gaming seats. But fear not! Rest assured that Microsoft is determined to do whatever it takes to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation, as Spencer himself declared during the recent FTC trial.
“I’m making a commitment standing here that we will not pull Call of Duty – it is my testimony – from PlayStation,” Spencer reassured the gaming community. “As you said, Sony obviously has to allow us to ship the game on their platform. But absent any of that, my commitment is, and my testimony is that we will continue to ship future versions of Call of Duty on Sony’s PlayStation 5.”
Back in December 2022, there were reports that Microsoft had offered Sony a deal to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for a whopping 10 years. Additionally, Sony allegedly had the rights to feature Call of Duty on PlayStation Plus if they so desired. Whether these rumored terms have remained intact or if new ones have been established, only time will tell.

This agreement is just one of Microsoft’s strategies to successfully close its massive $68.7 billion deal and appease the skeptics, including the FTC and CMA, who have opposed it. However, the clock is ticking, as the deal has a looming deadline of July 18. Should the deal fail to close by then, Xbox would have to pay a hefty $3 billion to Activision Blizzard, and both parties would have the opportunity to renegotiate the terms of their merger.
