- Despite being a follower of Shar, Shadowheart surprisingly prefers kind and compassionate actions. She also admires the use of your wiles to deceive enemies (Persuasion and Deception). Keep in mind that she’s not fond of Lae’zel, so play nice and respond wisely to certain suggestions.
- As your relationship with Shadowheart deepens, she’ll eventually reveal her true nature and the purpose of her artifact. Despite the fact that Shar is feared by many in Faerun, your acceptance of her is crucial. Prepare yourself for a scene that unveils her mysterious past.
The First Kiss Conundrum
During the early access period, romancing Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 involved being in her good graces and saving the Tiefling refugees. This led to a cozy camp party where she would be in the mood for a drink and a smooch, advancing your romance to the next level.
Unfortunately, in our playthrough, this option seemed to have gone missing. We’re not sure if the requirements have changed or if some other romance got in the way – Damn you, Karlach! So, the possibility of a fiery first kiss with Shadowheart remains uncertain for now.

The Nightsong Decision – Love in the Dark
Fast forward to Act 2, where things start to heat up between you and Shadowheart. This is the point where you can progress her companion quest and enter the treacherous Gauntlet of Shar. Here, an important decision awaits you regarding the Nightsong. Brace yourself, for the fate of your romance is at stake:
- Spare Nightsong: By sparing Nightsong’s life, Shadowheart will receive Selune’s blessing and be forsaken by Shar. She’s a little worried about losing her faith, but she opens herself up more to your relationship. Choose to continue pursuing romance with Shadowheart.
- Kill Nightsong: Should you choose to eliminate Nightsong, Shadowheart will be blessed by Shar herself. She claims her love is only for her goddess, but you can express your desire to keep trying with your relationship. After this thrilling turn of events, Shadowheart is back to being her radiant self, with a new hairdo and even an option for a romantic dialogue kiss (which oddly didn’t happen in our saved game where we spared Nightsong).
- Unknown: Offer your heart and soul to Shar: There’s a statue of Shar that characters can worship, granting a necrotic resistance buff. However, when Shadowheart attempts to pray, she hears nothing. The only option left is a Religion check, hinting that she must offer her entire being to Shar. We have yet to see the outcome of this choice after clearing the dungeon.
