Video games side quests are like that one annoying NPC who keeps sending you on mundane and repetitive tasks, just for the fun of it. They love wasting your time and testing your patience. And Nier Replicant takes this concept and runs with it, leaving you both frustrated and strangely satisfied in the end. So, buckle up, fellow gamers, because we’re diving into the chaotic world of Nier Replicant’s side quest, “The Runaway Son.”
Once upon a time, in a village far, far away, a distraught father approached our protagonist, Nier, desperately pleading for help. His precious son had gone missing, and he needed Nier’s expertise to bring him back. Little did Nier know that this seemingly innocent side quest would spiral into an absolute whirlwind of chaos, taking him on a wild goose chase across the entire game world.
Now, before we embark on this crazed adventure, let’s set the stage. You’ve just completed “The Barren Temple” and are back in the Village, feeling all powerful and ready to take on the world. That’s when the father, standing across from the weapon shop, approaches you with a task. Find his precious runaway son, who is conveniently wearing a ridiculously oversized hat, and bring him back home. Simple, right? Wrong.
Our first stop is Seafront, where the runaway son has taken refuge. But don’t worry, his fashion choices make him hard to miss. Look for the guy with the huge red hat by the tree in the courtyard. Talk to him, and he’ll agree to go home. But wait, there’s a catch. He wants to thank the local tavern owner before leaving. And how exactly does he plan to show his gratitude? By demanding 5 Mutton and 3 Goat Meat, of course.
Off to the Northern Plains we go, smashing sheep left and right to collect the much-needed Mutton. And let’s not forget about those elusive goats, casually grazing on the Eastern Road near the Lost Shrine. Once you’ve gathered all the ingredients, head back to the Village, make your way to Seafront again, and deliver the food to the tavern. Oh, the joy! The runaway son never even met the tavern owner, and you just played the part of a delivery person. Bravo!

But the journey has only just begun. The runaway son’s father needs an update, so it’s back to the Village we go. And guess what? We’re sent right back to Seafront to search for clues. Follow the guard’s directions, venture into Facade, and start interrogating every soul with a side quest bubble above their head. Eventually, you’ll discover that the elusive son is now living in town. Sneaky, sneaky! His hideout can be found in the southwest living quarters, right above the weapon shop. Investigate his front door, and watch as he slips away into the Desert.
Now, get ready for some action. Chase after the son, only to be ambushed by wolves. After a fierce battle with those furry predators, confront the runaway son one last time. Teach him a lesson he won’t forget, and convince him to return home to his worried father. Finally, the family is reunited, and you can breathe a sigh of relief.
But here’s the icing on the cake. Prepare yourself for the ultimate plot twist. When you return to the Village, you discover that neither the father nor the son is home. And to make matters worse, a guard spills the beans. Turns out, they were both swindlers who conned everyone in the Village and vanished without a trace. The side quest you painstakingly completed was nothing more than an elaborate diversion, while they robbed the Village blind. Talk about a cruel twist of fate!
So, dear gamers, the moral of the story is this: in Nier Replicant, never trust a side quest. They might lead you on a wild and utterly pointless journey, leaving you empty-handed and questioning your life choices. But fear not, for the chaos and deception are all part of the experience. Embrace the madness, laugh at the absurdity, and keep on gaming, knowing that even the most mundane quests can bring unexpected joy.
And remember, if you’re up for the challenge and want to experience the thrill of “The Runaway Son” firsthand, just follow the steps in this guide. But be warned, the journey is not for the faint of heart. Good luck, fellow gamers, and may your side quests always be filled with adventure (and maybe a little bit of treasure).
