Resident Evil: Village – Where Villainous Supernatural Beings Meet Scientific Explanations

Resident Evil: Village

In late 2021, the much-anticipated Resident Evil: Village hit the gaming world with a bang. This latest installment in the mainline Resident Evil series brought a new twist to the table, deviating from the traditional Resident Evil antagonists that we all know and fear.

Resident Evil has always been known for its iconic zombies and undead creatures. Remember those spine-chilling Ganados and Majini from Resident Evil 4 and 5? They were undead-like beings that fit perfectly within the franchise. However, Resident Evil: Village took a different direction. Its primary enemies had a supernatural touch to them, but there was a scientific explanation hiding beneath their eerie exteriors.

Resident Evil: Village - Supernatural Enemies

Let’s talk about the enemies in Resident Evil: Village. Gone are the days of conventional zombies. Instead, we were introduced to werewolf-like creatures, spooky castles, and even a charismatic vampire, Lady Dimitrescu, and her three daughters. Talk about a bloodthirsty family reunion!

But wait, there’s more! Let’s not forget Heisenberg, a grotesque character who seems like a mad scientist’s experiment gone wrong. Imagine Doctor Frankenstein mixed with the main characters from Tetsuo: The Iron Man. We also had Donna Beneviento and Moreau, who may not have been overtly supernatural, but their abilities and overall themes would’ve fit right into a horror film. Sadly, no paranormal surprises here.

The first trailer for Resident Evil: Village teased us with supernatural elements, but the game decided to take a more scientific approach. It was revealed that all the abilities and appearances of these menacing enemies were a result of scientific experiments conducted by Mother Miranda. Talk about unexpected and horrifying results!

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room. With Resident Evil: Village providing yet another scientific explanation, the franchise has pretty much closed the door on supernatural explanations for future games. Trying to introduce supernatural elements at this point would feel cheap, unearned, and out of place. Both Resident Evil 7 and Village laid the groundwork for such explanations, but chose to veer away from them.

As for the future of the franchise, it’s still a mystery. Rumors circulate about Resident Evil 9 being in development, with Chris Redfield taking the lead. A remake of Resident Evil 5 may also be on the horizon. However, one thing is certain: Resident Evil has made a choice, and it’s not turning back.

So, grab your controllers and prepare for a gripping, scientifically explained horror experience in Resident Evil: Village. Available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s time to face off against supernatural beings with a twist of scientific flair!
