Genshin Impact’s Actor-Pay Controversy Explained

Genshin Impact's Actor-Pay Controversy Explained

Genshin Impact’s Voice Actors: The Drama, The Delayed Pay, and The Happy Ending

With the rise of gacha games and their addictive nature, it’s no surprise that Genshin Impact has become a fan-favorite. This action RPG, developed by HoYoVerse, has captured the hearts of gamers everywhere and has become one of the most popular gacha games around. But even in the world of virtual adventures, real-life drama can unfold.

Two of the game’s voice actors found themselves in a sticky situation when they publicly declared that they hadn’t been paid for months. Now, in the blink of an eye, this might not seem like a big deal, but trust us, it is. After all, voice actors are the unsung heroes that bring our favorite characters to life, and they deserve their fair share of the treasure.

The Accusations: Payday MIA

Late payments for voice actors in Genshin Impact began surfacing as early as December 2022. It wasn’t until July 2023 that two important voice actors, Brandon Winckler and Corina Boettger, decided to come forward and spill the tea. Winckler, known for lending his voice to various NPCs, revealed that the lack of payment was jeopardizing his living situation. Boettger, the voice behind the adorable Paimon, even turned to Twitch streams to raise money for rent. Needless to say, it was an air of uncertainty for both actors and fans.

But here’s the kicker – nobody knew who was to blame. HoYoVerse or the recording studio, Formosa Group? The finger-pointing continued, and while the actors weren’t sure who was at fault, they were damn sure they deserved their gold. And rightfully so!

HoYoVerse’s Response: Let’s Settle This Like Adventurers

When voice actors publicly shout from the mountaintop that they haven’t been paid in half a year, it’s definitely a cause for concern. Fans rallied behind Boettger, demanding that HoYoVerse take action. And action they did take!

HoYoVerse, in response to these accusations, stated that they support their voice actors and would ensure they receive what they’re owed. They claimed to have paid Formosa Group on time and urged the studio to do the right thing. It seems like HoYoVerse recognized the gravity of the situation and began exploring alternative options to resolve the issue. As of the most recent updates, the actors have confirmed that the situation is being “fixed.” Finally, a happy ending!

The Lesson Learned: Pay the Adventurers

After this rollercoaster of drama, it’s a relief to see a swift resolution. However, let’s not forget that this should never have happened in the first place. Voice actors, who breathe life into iconic characters, deserve fair treatment and timely payment. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first instance of such mistreatment, and it won’t be the last. But it should be!

Let’s hope that Formosa Group, HoYoVerse, and every other company involved take this incident as a wake-up call. It’s time to ensure fair treatment for all actors and prevent similar incidents in the future, whether it’s for Genshin Impact or any other projects.

With that said, it’s time to get back to the adventures that await in Genshin Impact. Grab your weapons, summon your characters, and let’s explore this beautifully crafted world together!

Genshin Impact is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
