The Best Places To Find Sam

Sam is a busy man, but there are certain spots where you’re more likely to bump into him. During your first spring, swing by Joja Mart to find Sam working in the afternoon. If you’re not at two friendship hearts yet, you can wait inside his house and explore his family’s company. It’s a great opportunity to get to know them while you wait for Sam to come out of his room.

When it comes to gift-giving, Sam is easy to please. He appreciates inexpensive items, and there are a few things he absolutely loves. Here are some top gift ideas for Sam:

The Best Gifts To Give

Buy a few Pizzas from the Stardrop Saloon and gift them to Sam.
Joja Cola is also a winner for Sam. You can find it at Joja Mart, the Saloon’s Vending Machine, in trash cans, or even by fishing.

Dating Sam

Dating Sam is relatively easy, as there aren’t many dialogue choices that will affect your friendship with him. Simply visit him at home to trigger his events and spend quality time together.

Marrying Sam

Once you’ve reached ten hearts with Sam, it’s time to take your relationship to the next level. Mayor Lewis will send you a letter introducing the tradition of proposing with a Mermaid’s Pendant. To obtain this precious item, you’ll need to find the Old Mariner, a mysterious NPC who appears on the beach on rainy days.

The Old Mariner sells the Mermaid’s Pendant for 5,000g, but remember, he’s on the far right side of the beach, so repair the wooden bridge to reach him. Once you have the pendant, present it to Sam as a gift, and if your friendship level is still above ten hearts, he’ll happily accept. The wedding is scheduled for three days after the proposal, so get ready to say “I do!”

At the wedding, Sam will move in with you on the farm. He’ll even add a special spouse room to the farmhouse and set up a half pipe outside for his skateboarding adventures. Plus, you’ll unlock the opportunity to increase Sam’s friendship level to 14 hearts.

Marriage Schedule

After the wedding, Sam’s schedule, like that of other married NPCs, changes. He’ll be busy watering crops, feeding animals, repairing fences, and decorating the house. You may even receive special gifts from him. Keep in mind that Sam, like all marriage candidates, occasionally leaves the farm on Mondays and Fridays.

Sam’s Fourteen Hearts Cutscene

Every marriage candidate has a unique 14-heart event. To trigger Sam’s event, make sure you have 14 hearts with him and have upgraded the farmhouse at least twice. Enter the farmhouse between 6:10 am and 5:00 pm when Sam is inside. There are three stages to the event, each occurring after a few days of waiting and entering the farmhouse at the right time.

Maintaining Marriage Or Choosing Divorce

To keep your marriage strong, all you need to do is talk to Sam. He can usually be found in or around the farmhouse in the mornings. Interact with him to maintain your love, and if you interact enough times in a row, you’ll share a sweet kiss.

If, for any reason, you’re regretting your marriage and want a divorce, it’s simple but costly. Head to the Mayor’s house and find the divorce book to the left of his kitchen. You can file for divorce there. Sam will be resentful, but if you complete a quest for the Wizard, you’ll have the opportunity to erase his memory at a Shrine.
